What is baccarat?

The card game baccarat is a community game played between two hands, the player and the banker. Up to 15 people usually participate in this casino game. It is believed that it is the oldest casino games that can be found in modern casinos.

Objective of Baccarat

In baccarat, a player needs to have a card combination closest to 9 more than the banker’s card. The value of a hand is calculated by adding up the value of the cards.

Card Values

All cards numbered 2 through 9 are worth the face value. The cards 10, Jack, Queen and King have a value of 0. The Aces are worth one point. To calculate a hand sum, add the value of the two cards. If the total is more than 10, the tens digit is dropped.

How to Play Baccarat

Before dealing cards, a player can issue a wager within the current tie (both hands are of the same value). Betting also takes place before the card game begins. The dealer then deals a pair of cards to the banker and the player. During the game, the dealer deals consecutive decks of cards from a shoe.

Baccarat Variants

(1) American baccarat or Punto Banco - It has only two hands, the banker and the player. Players can put bets on either of them, or on a tie before cards dealing.

(2) Baccart chemin de fer – French variant of the game. As a rule six decks are used to form a shoe. In the baccarat chemin de fer there is a fixed sequence of taking a seat.

(3) Baccarat (en) banquet – Played with 3 decks in a shoe and the table can host up to 10 players at a time. The aim is to achieve eight or nine points as close as possible.

(4) Mini baccarat – The players can bet on a banker or on a player area, as well as on a tie area.
